Gotten a Piece lately?

The Communal Fabric of the Cleveland Heights Coventry Village is hands down Guy's Pizza. Long a favorite pie joint of mine and fellow bloggers they serve up a very good slice with a smile. Usually it's good to stroll in their rip roaring drunk on your way back to your car after McNulty's which usually occurrs around 3am and they've finished up with their infamous dance mix, usually includes classics such as "Let me clear my throat, Sandstorm, OPP, and Hang on Sloopy- doesn't matter if it's autumn or the dead of summer for the latter, yet across the board they find reason to play only all songs that anyone would recognize within 5 seconds and smile, no music with any artistic value whatsoever. After consuming a Guy's slice one usually stumbles to their car mumbling swear words to the passerbys and college kids roaming the streets. Although you're stumbling you can of course drive yourself home safely or to a friends for unneccesary late night action where one experiences kids crying in their Busch Light cans and arguing over who played on a better CYO team in high school and sadly enough, if the memory allows to as far as grade school, with no recourse of legal action by the CHPD (Cleveland Heights Police Department) throughout.
However many have known and I myself, prefer to start drinking at the Winking Lizard adjacent to the east of Guy's (up the hill), earlier on in the night and head back "down to hill" to Panini's Bar and Grill, a safe and socially acceptable spot to drink in the later evening (chalk full of flat screens) at which juncture to grab a click slice and say what's up to the dedicated pie tossers (11-1:30). The pizza is really simple, which is good, very soft and doughy with not too much sauce, no onions in the sauce, just a good slice. However, they have a variety of sauces they strictly limit for the wings as they are located near the oven where a customer would be forbidden to go, but I have learned if you ask for honey mustard or buffalo wing sauce in a declaritive yet polite tone, the cashier is more than willing to give the customer a small saucer of whatever you wish, great for dipping the pie in.
At any rate I prefer to eat the slices in between bars because if you catch two slices on the way to Panini's you have enough food in your system to soften the blows one self inflicts upon themself subsequently by having four washington apples or cherry/ grape bombs with Bud and Miller Lites/ Red Bull Vodkas mixed in.
Well I miss Guy's dearly and I can't wait to chow some whenever I am home. Hats off to the Cavaliers, despite getting swept. LeBron carried this meager roster to the NBA championship where they were clearly overmatched, perhaps they made it too far. They provided the city of Cleveland and fans throughout the country happiness to cheer to the end. May they use these L's as a learning experience and continue to play with heart and more talent in the near future.

NBA Playoffs Moments 2007

The NBA Playoffs of 2007 have been extremely memorable, especially for Cavalier fan. My brother is in town this weekend and we got to talking over adult beverages about our favorite playoff moment. He suggested, and I quickly agreed, that the best playoff moment thus far has been the all around goofiness that ensued after what was a truly incredible dunk by Baron Davis on Andrei Kirilenko. This can be witnessed at the appropriately titled video on the right. In particular, we recalled Stephen Jackson's fake brushing/cleaning of Baron Davis' jersey and shoulders after the dunk and the despondent referee's attempt to calm them and herd them back to the bench. This was our favorite moment and we were quickly brought to laughter thinking about it. I had not seen the video replay again until today, which is almost a month later but the image of Jackson had remained crystal clear for me. It is hilarious and the Jackson shenanigans in particular can be seen at about the 30 second mark of the video and then again in slow motion at the 1:10 minute mark. I recommend it for some Monday morning hahas.

This is the link for it too, in case the video on the right does not work.

Hurts

Having cooled off for a few hours I think I can say what I need to say without being overly emotional.
Watching that game I found myself repositioning myself on the couch out of sheer discomfort and embarassment, the same way I would when someone does something so dumb or embarassing you can't even laugh because their embarassment is being shared by you and everyone who saw. And then I saw my dad do it too.

While some may say (somewhat justifiably) that we're in no tougher a spot than we were in last year's confrence semis against Detroit, I just can't shake tonight's game.
I know you take a player out if they are in foul trouble early, but not LeBron. Our game plan, evident throughout these playoffs, has been to have it close going into the fourth quarter because anything can happen in the fourth.
T
aking LeBron out and all but spotting the most disciplined team we've seen 15 points is illogical. Granted he may have been more hesitant to attack, but that way he wouldnt have had to spend the majority of the second quarter getting back into the flow and the offense would have clicked better. I mean an airball on a charity toss? Mike Brown needs to recognize how much this team relies on LeBron for not only points but confidence and motion. Sitting him for 10 minutes in the beginning of a road game in the Finals is absurd. We can't spot the Spurs 15 points and expect to get it back in three quarters with a cold LeBron.
Imagine the fourth if we had just been down 6 to end the first quarter.

The only moment I laughed in that game was when Dick Bavetta overruled Jim Clark after Clark called Sasha on the double-dribble that wasn't. Clark blew a late whistle after the Spurs bench got in his ear, but luckily Bavetta came over and essentially cock-slapped him straight.
The officiating did leave a lot to be desired, but wasn't a factor. The Spur's foot that was clearly not out of bounds in the corner and Tony Parker's 5-step drive late were awful.

Is there anyone in Cleveland right now who can still make an argument for giving Larry Hughes playing time? Injury or no injury, the guy is a mess right now and could never shoot off the dribble anyway. If he is going to play, it needs to be at the 2 with LBJ at the 3 and Tits or Snow running it. Every five games he is good for a spot up three or pump fake with 2 dribbles and floater.

Anyone who read the Plain Dealer this morning, did you hear that LeBron likes the Sopranos? But he was going to be a little more focused on Tony Parker tonight? The PD needs to step it up...Branson Wright is a moron two bad articles away from Roger Brown status. That gives him until Tuesday to enjoy his status.

Anyway, Cavs in 6.

War the Spurs' squeeky PA guy who sounds like he should be working at Cedar Point welcoming back riders and asking them "How was your ride???"

Simple. Simple. Simple

I met these boofs from 'Ole Miss tonight and they informed me Ohio was a swing state ( care tons). At any rate I met another boof from the bar during the Cavs vs. Spurs game, he bought me a Jaeger shot, I was chewy monstrosity started looking at my sister and laughing,at any Loyola road is a road where you have to be loyal. Luckily for me I will be working with my head so I will have to work with my hands ever again, believe, heed my advice. I am not trying to strike a bi partisan debate, rather i would love to see us all flourish, Go Cavs!!!!!!!!!

(This video was passed along by fellow contributor Jonny. He is scared to post because of legal ramifications surrounding his chosen "law game.")

Tonight's the Night, Cavs Basketball

I started this night off having a couple glasses of red wine and watching the pregame show on TNT and the first quarter. I ended it by slamming shots of Jameson and doing my trademark "eagle swooping" move down the middle of a crowded and bustling 18th street in Adams Morgan with some third-world type launching his jumbo slice at me. This was an incredible performance and hopefully a sign of things to come. I encourage you all to listen to the song on the link I am about to post. It is a nostalgic tribute to the old glory days when we made the trek out to Richfield. Look at the middle of the page and click on the link for Michael Stanley's "Tonight's the Night." I have it on repeat as I go to bed in a drunken stupor.

P.S. This post did not even need mentioning of the obvious - King, Witness, Chosen One etc. it has all been said - now, it is a reality.

Tomorrow is my last day of work for a few years. If heaven can only be like this.
